Welcome to the 2020 School Year! 📚What a year we have had! Monday is the First Day of School via Distance Learning. School starts at 8:00 am through Microsoft TEAMS. First week is 8:00 – 10:00 am
We will have a super cute photo area set up in front of the school for you to take First Day of School Pictures after class ends.
When will I know who my child’s teacher is? Will I hear from my teacher before Monday?
Class lists are posted on the windows behind the school marquee. Emails were also sent out last evening to all parents who had provided proof of address. Teachers are currently setting up new Class Dojo accounts, and they will send you a code to join. Dojo is a great way to communicate with teachers, and you can even message me through Dojo. Teachers are making an effort to reach out to parents as well before Monday. On the staff link at the top of this page, you can click on your teacher to send them an email.
What is the Schedule for Distance Learning?
The first week of school schedule is 8: 00 am – 10:00 am for all students Kinder – 6th grade.
The daily instructional minutes per state guidelines for distance learning depend on the grade level and are as follows. Otay’s schedule below reflects these minutes. This schedule starts September 8:
- Kinder: 180 Minutes (3 Hours) 8:00am – 11:15 am
- Grades 1 – 3: 230 Minutes (3 Hours, 50 Minutes) 8:00 am – 12:05 pm
- Grades 4 – 6: 240 Minutes (4 Hours) 8:00 am – 12:15 pm
During these instructional minutes, teachers will be providing online instruction with students as a whole class, in small groups, and individually. These instructional minutes represent a ‘total number of minutes’ which will be achieved each day. Teachers will be providing their families with more specific schedules for their classroom during the first week of school.
How will my child get into their virtual classroom? How do they “meet” their teacher?
Our entire school will be using Microsoft Teams to meet with their students every day. Please plan to have them logon before 8:00 am every day. You will need your child’s student id number, login information and password to join Microsoft Teams, which is provided below. I am also sending several attachments to this email with step by step instructions to help you. There are different ways to access Microsoft Teams. The app is already installed on school-issued devices, or you can access it through the district portal at https://www.cvesd.org/district/students
Child email/username: email@example.com (6 digit student id number)
K-1 – lower case first initial + lowercase last initial + student id + = (vg000000=)
2-6 – upper case first initial + lowercase last initial + full birthdate (Dm08052014)
TIP: Most log in issues result from mistyping the email address and/or password, or capitalizing the password incorrectly
Will attendance be taken during distance learning?
Attendance will be taken during distance learning and attendance will count. In addition to monitoring attendance, teachers and the school team will also be monitoring student participation during online class sessions. Our School Counselor, Social Worker, Psychologist will join me in reaching out to families whose students are not engaged in learning, so that we may support you in this effort.
I hope that this information helps ease your mind about the start of school. Please let me know if you have additional questions. You can reply to this email, message me on Class Dojo.
